Popcorn and Movies!

Across the Universe

It was a fun treat, watching this film.  Although there were some parts where I got dragged by how long the film is, seeing my youngest sister, Maudie, totally enjoying it made up for it.

There were lots of brilliant parts, but it wasn’t consistent.  It was like a moving mosaic, they pieced everything from Beatles’ songs. It was intentional, and it made th e movie look choppy.  Since there are more than a hundred songs, I kind of get the feeling they tried to squeeze in too many songs into the film.  I remember a particular scene, it was raining and a character "came in through the bathroom window."  They might have thought of singing it too, but thought against it, I guess.

Maud and I weren’t actually from the Beatles’ era, our Dad’s love for the Beatles just rubbed off on us, so we were like students, trying to understand one of the greatest bands there ever is.  Dad preferred to stay at home, btw.

As a whole, absolutely like the movie.  There are some parts which I really loved, like when Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) sang If I Fell.  Actually, I was a bit teary-eyed.  Cheesy, eh pero paborito ko yun eh, haha!

Also the part where Jude (Jim Sturgess) was being enlightened and people were singing "Hey Jude" to him, and a drunkard was drumming on all kinds of things.

I also liked the part where Jude met Max (Joe Anderson) and they were all shouting to lines of "With a Little from My Friends."  Astig kasi yung, "Do you need anybody?" tapos drums!  Husay!!

And the part where Sadie was singing, and it turned kaleidoscope!

Andami ko namang favorite parts. :P

Merun pa, ehe.

When Max was being drafted to the war and boxes were zigzaging across the screen, to show that he was being physically examined.  Galing!

And the part where they were high, the screen turned into pop art.  I thought my sister wouldn’t understand what was happening, I forgot that she’s already sixteen, nyak. Kinalabit pako para sabihing, ate agee, nag-drugs sila di ba?  Ang talino ng kapatid ko, haha. :P

If one of their goals was to get people hooked on Beatles’ songs, they’ve done it successfully on me.  LSS ‘to the whole Monday!

If you’re familiar with Beatles songs, watch it!  Watch it with barbeque popcorn!  Ba’t barbeque?  Wala lang, masarap kasi yun eh. Haha. ;)

Have a great week everyone!! :)
